Welcome to my posts (I dislike the word ‘blog’). My ambitious plan is that there will be regular pieces here on a balance of books, gardens, gardening, cookery and possibly craft. It’s a completely unrealistic plan, as I know from my previous website. There, Chris and I only managed regular posts when we took part in the Hundred Day Craft Project and, even then, we had to work on alternate weeks. But I’ll try.

If you’ve got this far into my website, I probably don’t need to tell you that I’m very much a jack-of-all-trades. Unexpectedly, I became a writer and later, even more unexpectedly, an editor of prose and poetry anthologies on subjects ranging from London to nature, the First World War to happiness and food to books. I’ve worked in bookshops (and still do), been a gardener, a potter and model maker and sold patchwork quilts. I’ve written about fruits and vegetables, flowers and trees, cookery and history, mosaics and needlecraft.
Much of this has come about through lucky chances and because my default reply to most things is to say ‘Yes, absolutely, love to’. Luckily I haven’t been offered business books or bungee jumping, both of which would terrify me. At times is gets out of hand with projects nudging each other but, on the whole it makes for a life of endless pleasure, interest and variety. I hope my posts will reflect this.
